"I can't believe you did that," Gyllie said as soon as her feet touched the ground.
"Did what?" H'riv demanded as he followed her down from Uuketh's neckridge.
"Took me to meet your parents, H'riv! You _promised_ and I meant it! I am not looking for some sort of commitment." The redhead glowered as she stormed into H'riv's weyr
H'riv was hot on her heels. "I didn't say anything about commitment! Oh, and thanks for blurting that out about my brother's kid!"
Gyllie spun, her eyes narrowed. "Well you never said not to! All you have talked about is your perfect little family that loves each other no matter what. I'm sure they'll kiss and make up!"
The brownrider opened his mouth to protest but he found his arms suddenly full of Gyllie, her hands digging at his belt while her mouth assaulted his. H'riv returned her ardor, the intense feelings from their argument now being channeled into his desire.
--
As the pair came down from their high, H'riv wrapped his arms around the woman and pressed his lips against her shoulder. "What's up with you today?" he asked. He had never seen her angry, not even a hint of it.
"I told you already." Gyllie rolled over in his arms. "I'm not the commitment-family-meeting type of girl. It's fine if you talk about your family, but I don't want to meet them or anything like that."
Meeting families and making friends with them formed attachments, and Gyllie did not form attachments.
"I apologize, I honestly didn't mean it to be anything too serious. You mentioned you had grown up in Amber Hills, I just thought you might like a day out on the ocean." H'riv told her, this time with less ire in his voice.
Gyllie supposed she should apologize for telling H'riv's mother about the baby, but she hadn't liked the stiff, judging woman, so she really didn't feel all that sorry about it.
Rolling out of the bed, Gyllie slipped back into her clothing, her swift movements telling how often she had done so. "This was fun while it lasted, H'riv." She said, her back to him as she buttoned her dress.
H'riv's brow furrowed as he sat up. "Fun while it lasted?" he echoed in disbelief.
Looking over her shoulder, she sighed a little as she admired his muscular physique and those hands... He had known how to use those hands.
"It's best this way," she assured him.
H'riv sat up in the bed. "Gyllie," he said, trying to reason with her, "you're going to just walk away because of one thing? I told you, it was nothing. I'm not looking for nor asking for a commitment of any kind."
Gyllie sighed a little as she slipped her feet back into her shoes. "Not right this second you aren't, but soon... You will be. I've seen and heard it before."
"But -"
"Goodbye, H'riv. It was lovely, really." Flipping her hair over her shoulder, Gyllie slid out of the door.
H'riv stared at the closed portal, wondering what in the name of Faranth had just happened. For his insistence that he wasn't committed, her sudden departure stung... a lot.
